Devenir quelqu'un
The digital installation ‘Devenir quelqu’un’ at the European Conference on African Studies (ECAS 2017) in Basel, Switzerland focuses on young graduates from Mali and Burkina Faso. Based on audio-visual insights it asks how, in times of economic uncertainties, precarious career trajectories and widely publicized youth protests, those who are considered to be “society’s future” – hence today’s youths – work on and imagine their very own future lives.
The installation is part of the project ‘Longing for the Future’ and draws on scientific research on life stories, career trajectories and self-conceptions and provides a space for expressions of hopes, ideas, expectations and challenges shared by young people across the world.
The photographs were taken by young Malian photographers, the audio-file was worked out by theatre collectives from Burkina Faso and Germany.

'Longing for the Future' aka 'Was Werden Wird' zu Gast im Museum der Kulturen Basel!
Ob Westafrika oder Schweiz – uns Jungen gehört die Zukunft. Unbestritten. Aber welche? 'Was Werden Wird' begibt sich auf Spurensuche und beschäftigt sich mit Lebensentwürfen und Zukunftsvorstellungen von jungen Erwachsenen in Burkina Faso, Mali und der Schweiz. Die Bildwelt und audio-visuelle Installation regt zur Reflexion und Diskussion an und erzählt von Utopien und Blockaden, von Chancen, Entscheidungen und Hoffnungen auf dem Weg zum Erwachsenwerden.
Datum: 10. April bis 5. Juni 2016 (Audio Walk); 10. April bis 25. September (Dokumentation) Achtung: wegen dem Museumsfest ist der Dokumentationsraum vom 22.08. bis 07.09. geschlossen!

Rencontres de Bamako 2015
At the biennale photography show Rencontres de Bamako 2015, 'Longing for the Future' was presented in an exhibition at the CFP's premises in Bamako, accompanied by a theatre play.
More precisely, the CFP students had the opportunity to display the pictures they have produced in the frame of the project and the Théâtr'Evasion from Ouagadougou was invited for a guest performance of 'A la croisée de nos rêves', also developed in the context of 'Longing for the Future'.

Die Entstehungsgeschichte von 'Was Werden Wird' verknüpft nicht nur Kontinente sondern auch Menschen, Räume und Perspektiven... Anbei einige Impressionen von unterschiedlichen Begegnungen, intensivem Austausch und vielfältiger Arbeit.
A la croisée de nos rêves: La pièce de théâtre à Ouagadougou
Une certaine génération recherche obstinément un horizon incertain pour promener son regard perdu.
Au nombre des rares possibilités que leur offre la société dont ils ont la malchance d’être les transfuges, il y a la mer ou plutôt ses côtes ; et il y a le camp de cantonnement des jeunes drogués qui ne désemplit pas, bien au contraire !
Mais il y a aussi les cartes dites magiques du vieux PAUPO ; des cartes elles-mêmes inaptes à refléter l’avenir qui se mêle tel un kaléidoscope aux pourpres couleurs du passé désespéré d’un homme qui ressasse ses rêves inféconds.
Lorsque ces jeunes croisent leurs regards, ils exhument des existences rétives qui leur ressemblent à s’y méprendre.

Une personnage combative
L'actrice Jacqueline Kini parle de son rôle dans la pièce 'A la croisée de nos rêves'. Elle joue Dofissant, une jeune femme qui travaille comme guide touristique en attendant sa chance. Dofissant tient beaucoup à sa philosophie positive qu’il faut toujours inventer soi-même ou s’en remettre à Dieu et espérer fortement en bougeant un peu.
Uni-Nacht 2015 in Basel
'Longing for the Future' zu Gast an der Uni-Nacht 2015!
Im September 2015 konnten wir unser Projekt über Poster und Sound-Installationen an der langen Nacht der Wissenschaft an der Universität Basel einem breiten Publikum zugänglich machen und auf zukünftige Ausstellungen und Projekte hinweisen.
Foto-Präsentation in Zürich
Im Kontext der Zusammenarbeit mit der F&F Schule für Kunst und Design sind vielfältige Bildwelten entstanden. Die Präsentation der Arbeiten fand im Mai 2015 in Zürich statt.
